Hawks Football Club founded in 1973 by the late Mr Housainou M.M. Njai, has come a long way since its inception from a second division (amateur) team to one of the oldest and leading teams presently playing in The Gambia Football Federation’s top flight.
Since its formation as an amateur club without any major sponsorship, the club relied on its founder and dedicated people as members of the Executive who worked tirelessly to build a solid foundation the club currently benefits from. The late Mr. Housainou MM Njai aside of being the club’s founder was also the club’s patron and greatest asset. He passed away on the 5th of September 2002 and left a big vacuum that would be very difficult to fill. We thank God for his vision and foresight that made him found this great Club and pray that his gentle soul rests in perfect peace. We are committed to continue his legacy hence our continued efforts to keep the club alive if not for anything but for his memory and contribution to Gambian sports, particularly to football and youth development
Hawks FC has made tremendous progress over the years having started in the Second Division and then gaining promotion to the First division where the team has stayed to date. Over the years, the club has embarked on promoting various youth development, educational and football programmes for boys and girls respectively. As a result of this, the club boasts of its own academy for children aged between 5 to 15, two junior teams i.e U19 and U17 who both play in the second and third tiers of The Gambia Football Federation League and the A team. We are currently the only club in The Gambia with teams participating in all the three tiers of the Gambia Football Federation leagues i.e 1st, 2nd and 3rd Divisions). The academy runs training sessions on Saturdays and Sundays for the young whilst the junior and senior teams train daily from Monday to Friday at the Gambia High School football grounds in Banjul. The Club also helps in the enrolment and payment of tuition for under privileged students who play for the team.
